Paul seems to have practised at the most difficult time for animal care in the history of mankind. So much was new at least in the knowledge base of humans. Today, past work and the ability of vendors to create all encompassing medicines, supplements and animal practices seems to have made ranching in to a more routine business. At least that is my takeaway. Paul must have been the encyclopedia for his ranching family in Montana.
What a great view into the big ranch country of Western Canada. Paul did a fantastic job of describing the technique and lifestyle of a Large and Small animal veterinarian. I felt like it was very easy to picture the situations Paul incurred and the big country backdrop in this book. This is a must read for anyone who loves animals and the outdoors. Absolutely love all the short stories.
This book opened my eyes to the ranching life and it's challenges. I have a whole new respect for what it takes to bring the meat to my table. And certainly the stories and characters had me laughing and reflecting on the wisdom in these pages. It's an amazing life and an incredible journey! Looking forward to more stories
Paul did an great job of telling the stories that occurred during his time in practice
If you like James Harriet’s “All Creatures Great and Small” set in Northern England you will like Dr Paul Christiansen “Cowboy Medicine” set in Canadian British Columbia. If you are in the cow/calf or horse business I would call this a must read. If you like animals you need to read this.
Great read. Thank you for the honourable mention on pg 148. I pursued Engineering after that C-section instead of veterinarian medicine! Highly recommend Paul’s book to all ranchers and animal lovers.
