Three Sisters Mountain Designs was initially started by Paul (woodworking) and Gail Smillie (painting and design) as hobbies. It became an avocation and has morphed into a small business. Gail, besides doing commission paintings as an artist, is a critical artistic adviser to Paul’s wood creations. The furniture business started over 20 years ago with the creation of rustic wood benches. Over the years, Paul has created many different benches, desks, and dining and coffee tables.
Furniture pieces are branded with a GP, for Gail and Paul, and are branded with a number, currently at #610.Numerous small pieces have been created, such as boot jacks, barbeque scrapers, and small decorative wood trees. Over the years, many benches have been donated to charity auctions and fundraisers.
Ranchers interviewed for the Keepers of the Grass book have been gifted with a bench if logistically possible.
